  • Trauma therapy
  • Motivational interviewing

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Experiencing stress and anxiety is common among all humans. For some people, however, everyday stress can can lead to unhealthy coping strategies – sometimes in the form of addiction to alcohol or drugs.  Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is a behavioral therapy that helps clients to overcome negative thoughts or feelings by promoting a more fulfilled view. The primary goal of ACT is to help an individual behave differently when presented with stress.

The three main components of acceptance and commitment therapy include:

  • Accepting the effects of life’s hardships
  • Choosing directional values
  • Taking action

It is not realistic to completely eliminate stress or stressful situations from your life.  However, learning to manage the thoughts and feelings that result from stress can help prevent a life of addiction.
