Participate by Getting the Help You Need

While Mental Health Month may be more important than ever before in 2020, it is also a challenging time to stay connected. Nevertheless, support and services are still available at Tapestry and other organizations around the country.

Know Who to Call in Case of an Emergency

Whenever you are in immediate danger or facing a medical emergency, you should dial 911. For other mental health crises, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255). Operators are available 24/7 and provide free, confidential support for people in distress.

Share Stories with NAMI

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) also has plenty of resources available on its website. NAMI is also running a campaign called “You Are Not Alone,” where you can share your story and read personal stories from other individuals struggling with mental illness.

Use MHI’s ‘Tools 2 Thrive’

Since 1949, Mental Health America and its affiliates have observed Mental Health Month. This year, they have a downloadable toolkit with practical tools for improving your mental health. In 2020, the “Tools 2 Thrive” kit includes guides for:

  • Owning your feelings
  • Finding the positive
  • Eliminating toxic influences
  • Creating healthy routines
  • Supporting and connecting with others

Post on Social Media

If you want to show your support or express solidarity, you can also post on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. Make sure you use the hashtag #MentalHealthMonth. The National Council for Behavioral Health also has graphics and sample messaging you can use if you’re not sure what to share.
